The iSchool Initiative

Watching this video you can see how passionate he is about the changes that should be made in our education system. In the video he mentioned how school systems are suffering budget cuts. What better way to save money then to use the iSchool technology. With the iSchool applications schools would not have to spent all their money on books, paper, and copying machines. Just think about how much money schools waste on paper in one school year. All of that money could supply equipment for the students that could be used not only for one school year, But for their whole high school career. On top of that all the money spent on books could be used for many Different things such as improving other school programs or even adding teachers to the staff.

The iSchool also would eliminate such the classic I forgot my homework or the dog ate it. With I school your assignments would be sent in to the teacher as soon as the student finishes their work. Not only does the iSchool Help out on our schools pocket books but it also prepares the students for the future jobs and everyday life. I think the iSchool is a very good idea that I think schools should look into and give some serious though about iSchool it is a very good idea and it was a very eye opening video to watch.

Eric Whitacre's Virtual Chior

This video was very cool it just proves how you can really utilize technology in many diffrent ways. Not only to watch movies and videos but to also things such as the Virtual Chior You gotta watch this video.

Teaching in the 21st Century

To teach in the 21st Century you must utilize the technologies that are going to prepare the students for their future.Kevin Roberts video Teaching in the 21st century is something that I believe all future teachers should watch. It shows us that as teachers students have access to as much information if not more at home when the are on the computer and that as educators teachers must embrace tools such as Twitter, Blogs, and Facebook. Students will be using technology for the rest of their lives and even more then we do now so the more familiar they are with the processes of how to use technology the better of they will be in the future. As an educator this video should make you want to utilize these tools in your class so that your students will have a better chance of being successful. this was a very good video.

Why I Flipped My Classroom

This is a very good idea that I think all teachers should use. Flipping your class room could be one of the most effective ways of education your student not just the middle range of student but it allows all the students to learn. From the Underdeveloped students to the advanced students. It allows the whole class period to be full of learning not just reviewing and lecturing to a bunch of blank, sleeping, and board students. The I Flipped My Classroom video is a very insightful video for teachers and teachers to be.

1st Graders Create Their Own Read Along Book
This topic really had a impact on me because I remember how hard it was for me to grasp the concept of reading when I was in the 1st grade. It wasn't because I didn't have the intellectual capacity but it is because I am didn't know at the time that I was dyslexic. witch at the time I didn't know that is what was holding me back so I didn't know how to cope with my disability. I really struggled with reading and I think If children were given these tools not to just listen to them and goof off but to learn skills that will help them for the rest of their lives. To me that is something that cant be replaced. If you think about it these read along books are not only a useful too for sharpening their skills but they allow the students to interact with what they are learning.

The read along audio books would also be a great way for the student to increase their vocabulary and pronunciation of words because lets face it as kids we have a hard time pronouncing long difficult words. The read along books would allow them to practice their skills in pronunciation unlike sitting there in a corner reading to yourself quietly in the corner. The actual act of verbally saying the words while reading allows the student go grasp the skills of learning not only how to read but how to speak in more fluent correct sentences. Once a kid reads and fallows along with the read along audio books then the will have the confidence and ability to make their own read along audio book witch can be a major boost in their self esteem, belief, and confidence in their skills. These read along audio books are also a great idea for students with special needs because it gives them a alternative to improve their reading skills. I enjoyed this very much and i would like to thank Ms. Silvia Rosenthal for sharing this post with us all. I found it a very enjoyable topic.

Daily Digital Discoveries

I would like to thank Dianne Krause so much for posting this blog about Zinio. Witch is a very cool way of reading, watching, and listening with out having to buy tapes, books, or videos. Zinio allows you to read your favorite magazines and educational material all on your laptop. without all the hustle and bustle of going to a library.

What caught my eye more than anything about Zinio is that not only did it have educational books and videos it also includes magazines like ESPN Magazine,Mens Fitness, and many more. One of the things I think is neat is that with Zinio you don't have to go spend money on a whole magazine just to read one article that strikes your fancy. All you have to do is look it up and read it without having to spend the money on a magazine that you only what to read one article out of. I personally really really enjoyed this blog post and am very glad I not only read it but also looked around at the Zinio site and read a couple of articles that I found interesting. I think everyone should check out this Zinio site.

Dianne's Digital Discoveries

Dianne Krause Also posted a blog about NET for kids by Rebecca Amerson. I fallowed the link to the Prezi site and found out how useful this instrument could be in a school setting especially in the K-6th grade. it has very unique layout to catch the eye of a young child or student. As I thought about it this could also be a great resource for special education programs. I would like to thank Ms. Krause again for posting this blog.

Peer Editing
After watching the Peer editing videos I learned that it is a good thing to have a good balance of every aspect in editing your peers blog post. One of the first things is you must leave a positive comment and have a positive attitude when leaving a comment on a peers blog. second you should make some suggestions to your peer on things that they could add to there blog to make it even better. Third you tell them what corrections they need to make on there blog but when doing this you must be respectful and treat them how you would want to be treated DO NOT be rude or disrespectful. these three tips can be found in the video Tutorial Peer Editing

You must also be specific in what needs to be corrected, don't be pushy, and stay on topic with what their blog is about. with that said as the recipient of the editing you must not take it personal they are your peers and are just telling you what you need to do to be successful. you must also be receptive and take into account what they are telling you don't be a Whatever William and just brush it off like you don't care. When I watched these videos they gave me some great tips on how to give a correct peer review and I really enjoyed them.

Technologies In Special Education
Watching the video Technologies In Special Education was an eyes opening experience. I never realized how much technology could help students with special needs. Not only could it help them complete their homework but it could also help them interact with there classmates. Even better than that it could help the students who cant speak interact with society and even allow them to find better jobs for their future.

I think that as a future teacher it would be so cool if you could have a open chat projected on the board so when you are speaking and asking questions to the class they could type the answer and they would pop up on the screen. I think this would be a neat idea because it would allow them to actually be able to participate in class discussions. Not only do I think it would improve these students class participation but it could improve there self esteem and the way they act in class if they have this way to express their self.

How The I Pad works In the Academics of Autism
The I Pad allows students and children with autism to interact with what they are doing in a almost game like manner witch makes it a fun way for them to learn. from watching the video you can tell that This app is a very useful tool for autistic students. It is not only a visual interaction but it is also auditory and somewhat physical interaction all mixed into one. I think that this I Pad app would also be good for students who have problems just listening in class because it allows them to interact by seeing the problems witch is very neat.

Harness Your Students Digital Smarts
This video showed me that students have there own ways of learning. These students learned it themselves and even the teacher how to terraform. witch is pretty dang cool if you ask me cause as a student you know you are learning something when you figure stuff out that you have to teach you teacher. The teacher in this video said something that was very interesting she said" when you have only paper and pencil then only certain students will learn." I think this is so true.

I myself am a student who has a hard time just doing the same old thing with paper and pencil. I think that a change of pace and a change of the way things are done is a good idea. this video was very good and i really enjoyed it.

Did You Know?
After watching the videos by Dr. strange, Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod I saw that yes our country is in store for some major changes in the future to come and that the world is changing into an advanced technological society, when I say society I am not just talking about the U.S. I am talking about the entire worlds society. Some of the information I found interesting in the video Dr. Strange posted was that every minute 48 hours of you tube videos are added to the you tube collection. That is a lot of videos in one minute, but after watching both videos there were two specific points that stuck out to me.

these two points were that the top ten jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004 and that we as students are more than likely going to have jobs that don't exist right now, but on top of that we will also be using technologies that DO NOT exist yet and that to me is just mind blowing. Half of me is excited to see what awaits us in the future but the other half of me is hesitant because of this next point in the video that caught my eye is that by the year 2049 a $1,000 computer will exceed the computational capabilities of the entire human species. If you sit back and think about it that is really a scary thought that a computer could be smarter then all the humans combined. over all these two videos were very good and I enjoyed them.

Mr Winkle Wakes
The Mr Winkle Wakes video by Mathew Needleman I honestly did not get the point of it. I understand that Mr. Wink saw all the changes in the outside world but not in schools. Teaching has been done the same way for a very long time. Over those years changes have been made and I understand the need for students to learn on there own and not just spit up what they learned for one test and forget about it. I don't think it is so much the way that the students are given the information but the way they are tested on it.

In saying that I do not see anything wrong with the way students are educated because some students need to have that face time with the teachers for them to actually learn the information. On the other hand there are those students who can learn things without even stepping foot in a class room. from a personal stand point I learn best when a teacher lectures the information but when it comes test time the test is all comprehensive were the teachers test ask what is this? what is its function? and why does it preform that function? ect. This method makes the students actually sit down and learn the information and not just learn the bare facts but the whole aspect of the subject at hand.

Ken robinson
first I want to say is WOW this video was great early in the video the Importance of creativity Mr. Robinson say that creativity is just as important as literacy. I find that to be so true because without creativity we would not have all of the technology, artwork, music, and literature we have today. fallowing that he told the story of his sons play of the nativity. What he said after this story is also very true that if you are not prepared to be wrong you will not come at it with some thing original. This I find to be very true as well as the fact that we are educated out of our creativity and that is very sad.I took a min after watching the video to think about it and it struck me. Could we actually get to the point were creativity is looked down upon? That's just some food for thought. This video really made me think and everything he said rang a bell of truth to me education does educate students from the feet up then slightly to one side. After watching this video I am going to make it a point that as a future educator i plan to allow my students to use as much creativity as they possibly can in my classroom.

A Day Made of Glass
The A Day Made of glass video was very cool and I hope I get to experience technology like that. It seems like technology like that is so far away but honestly if you think about it some of that stuff is so close to being possible today. such as the full touch screen car display for air conditioner and the display pads used for there daily school equipment. There is so much amazing stuff in this video it's crazy. But seeing that I can understand now how Mr. Wink felt when he woke up in a world were people were using computers and other technological devices such as cell phones.

I could not even think of waking up 100 years in the future. i would not know what to do with all the Technology and how far it would have advanced in 100 years from now but I could see it looking a lot like the A day made of glass video. A world like that would be so great to experience I would love to see technology that advance. This video was my favorite over all not only because of the neat stuff but because of the creativity it took for the people or person who made this video. I was very original and captivating.
